Updates
09.22.2008Thank you for the memories. Checkgauge is officially over.
Well, everybody, it has been fun. Scott and I made a valiant attempt at finding replacements for Alex and Victor, but we couldn't find the right fits. We had auditions, but they didn't really pan out. With a new baby on the way in my home (sometime early November or late October!), I wouldn't be able to keep the kind of schedule that would make Checkgauge advance. And Scott, being a young lad, is in a much better position to continue on (and deserves the opportunity to do so...)... and so...
Scott is now in Calling Out Closer
They used to be Stereos, and now they have Scott. Lucky guys. I hope I'm not tipping their hand, cause they haven't posted the news yet on their page, but this is a GREAT opportunity for Scoot. Plus Calling Out Closer is a great band with great guys... especially for Amish guys. Scott will now have to grow an "Abe" beard. Make sure to keep up with those guys as they play out often and are worth your time!
But what about me, you ask?
The Firmament is starting up
I'm going back to my roots as a bassist. I've joined up with an old friend and we're creating a rock/worship band that's going to keep a lighter schedule than Checkgauge. We're older and each have responsibilities that come before playing out often. But don't get me wrong, well play and you can see us! I'll let everyone know when we have a website and you can follow us there.
So, what about all the Checkgauge... stuff?
I dunno. I really don't. We have a bunch of merch that we can't really do anything with now... stickers, T-shirts, buttons... everything in the online store. We're going to be slashing prices dramatically, so if you want anything, now's the time. Obviously, it's while supplies last. Granted... I don't think we'll be running out of stuff soon. As far as the EP goes, it's pretty much been abandoned. There's a slim chance that we'll finish it, but it's doubtful. I am making the songs on our myspace page ALL available for download. Why not, right? Scott and I are planning on playing the show on the 28th of September on acoustic guitars. It should be interesting hearing our songs done that way! We might also do the one in November, but that one is kinda up in the air right now. Maybe Calling Out Closer or The Firmament will pick that show up. We'll see. All in all, Checkgauge can say that we were always the same 4 guys. The original members started and ended the band, and that's rare. We did what God asked us to do for a year, and then He gently brought our time together to a close because He wants each of us ministering elsewhere. We know His plan is perfect! Thank you all so much for following us. We love you and hope to see you all again in our various endeavors. - Jai, Scott, Alex and Victor
07.09.2008Checkgauge is changing
Well, it's been nearly a year and we've been cruising right along with a steady lineup. It's more than many bands can claim, honestly :). But alas, Checkgauge - as we know it - is changing. With the difficulty of living so far apart from Scott and I (Jai), Alex and Victor have decided to move on to different stages in their lives that do not include playing in Checkgauge. It's a sad day for everyone, but we are encouraged that God is using each of us in mighty ways. Victor and Alex will play through August before moving on, so make sure you come out to those shows and wish them your best! They will be sorely missed as each of them are incredibly talented musicians, songwriters and close friends.
Does this mean Checkgauge is breaking up?
Um... well, yes and no I guess. I mean... we're losing half of the band. If you have a paper towel and you tear it in half, you broke it up, right? That doesn't make any sense. It makes more sense than most things I say from stage though... So in that sense, yes. But... NO! Scott and I will be on the hunt for a couple of new ministering musicians to join up with and carry Checkgauge forward. With that in mind, please check out the ad we have up looking for a bassist and if you are (or know of) a drummer that fits that bill, just substitute all the places it says "Bassist" with "Drummer". It'll be like Mad Libs! You'll love it! We may even be shifting the base of operations from New Jersey to PA... so... anyone in an hour radius from say... Doylestown, PA would be perfect.
What about the EP?
Well, we can't promise anything. We will be trying to finish the EP up soon, but it will likely be a "Download this stuff for free" EP. Without all of the band members that basically wrote this EP, there's not much sense in spending the money to get the CDs made. Making an online EP is cheap :).
Can we still book Checkgauge?
Yes. We'll likely be without an actual bassist, but Victor has said he'll fill in for shows on drums until we find someone if it will fit in his schedule. We'll have the bass played through a track, like Ashlee Simpson does her vocals... except that we won't do a hoe-down off the stage... unless you ask us to. And we'll try to play the right track... So that's the news. Friends, help us find who God would have minister alongside of us. We love you and would hate to see this all end this way. Pray for Checkgauge. ------------------------------------------ On an unrelated note, an old friend of mine, Darren LeBlanc, has a wife with stage IV brain cancer. He is faithful and believes in the miracles and healing from God. At this stage, the doctors can't do anything more for Misty - but God can. Please, please pray hard and fast for Misty LeBlanc. We would like to see a modern day miracle in her, so God's name will be praised and His glory known to everyone whom she meets. To read about their situation, follow the banner below:
